The short version
Railroad Wiki provides public educational articles, planning tools, and the Budget Express learning game. Project information entered into these tools is processed in the open page on your device. The website does not have project accounts, a project database, or automatic saving. Download the work you want to keep before leaving or reloading a tool.
Information you enter in a tool
The tools can contain project names, locations, estimates, contractor details, notes, and other information you choose to type. The site's tool code does not send those entries to a server, include them in page addresses, or store them in cookies, local storage, session storage, or a database. Calculations and generated reports happen in your browser's page memory.
Closing, reloading, or leaving a page can discard your work. Your browser, extensions, device settings, or operating system may separately offer autofill, page restoration, backups, or other functions outside the site's control. Avoid entering information that you are not authorized to use.
Downloads, PDF, and opening a project file
When you select Download Excel CSV, the tool creates a CSV file that can be opened in spreadsheet software. Print / Save as PDF opens your browser's print dialog; choose its PDF destination to create a PDF. Files go to the location you select or your browser's usual download folder. They are not stored in a Railroad Wiki account.
The four prototype tools also offer a downloadable JSON project file. If you choose to open that file later, it is read locally into the selected tool. Selecting the file does not upload it to Railroad Wiki. The capital budget worksheet exports CSV and prints but does not reopen project files.
Downloads and printed reports can contain everything you entered. Review them before sharing. Protect or delete them using your own device and file services. Railroad Wiki cannot recover or delete a copy held on your device or shared with someone else.
Budget Express game sessions
Game choices and scores are held only in the open page. The game does not use an account, online leaderboard, database, cookies, or browser storage to retain progress. There is no automatic saving. Completion reports are created on your device when you choose to download a CSV or print to PDF. The game does not collect a player name or contact details.
Website traffic and hosting
The delivered website does not include analytics scripts, advertising pixels, embedded third-party forms, remote fonts, mailing-list registration, or tracking cookies. Photographs and application assets are served as part of this website.
The website is hosted through Hostinger. Serving pages and protecting hosting infrastructure can involve technical information such as IP addresses, requested URLs, browser information, and timestamps in server or security logs. These records are separate from tool entries. Hosting practices, retention, and security settings are controlled by the hosting service and the site operator's configuration; this page does not promise anonymous browsing or a specific log-deletion period.
Links to other websites
Articles and image credits link to official references, photographers, and license pages. When you follow an external link, the destination's privacy practices apply. Our links do not attach your project entries. The website uses a referrer policy that limits cross-site referrer information to the site's origin.
Scope and changes
This policy describes the public website and the browser-based tools in this release. There is no public project-submission service or account recovery system. If the site adds accounts, forms, analytics, or cloud features, this policy must be updated to reflect the actual handling of information. Material changes will be reflected in the update date above.
